Advantage of Custom Fiberglass Rods

Fiberglass fishing rods are generally more expensive than traditional materials. That's not to say it's the most expensive, just that it's more expensive all around. In general though, fiberglass fishing rods will be less expensive across the board. There are quality fiberglass rods available for as little as 15 dollars per length.

However, custom fiberglass rods will be more expensive all around. For example, you can get high quality graphite rods for just a few bucks per length. On the other hand, custom fiberglass rods using premium materials such as premium grade cork grips and titanium guides could easily cost over a hundred dollars per length. This isn't including the costs of shipping. Although graphite rods are great in their own right, they simply won't perform like they're supposed to once they've been exposed to the elements for any length of time.

Graphite fly rods tend to work best out in the fresh spring and summertime when the water is warm and there's plenty of surface activity. As such, you'll find that graphite fly rods are generally less expensive than custom fiberglass rods. If you don't have a large budget to start with, you can still get a durable rod that performs as well as or better than much more expensive materials. One great place to look is eBay. You might be able to pick up a decent set of blanks there for around forty dollars. Read more great  facts on   frp poles,  click here.

Another benefit of custom fiberglass rods is that they work great with reel seats that are nickel silver plated or nickel silver coated. When you use standard steel reel seats, you'll find that they dent and discolor over time, so you avoid those effects by using the nickel silver plating reel seats instead. These seats can also be polished to give them a nice gleam and shine.

In addition to the benefits described above, another advantage of pultruded fiberglass rods is that they're easy to work with. The standard pultrusion process requires you to do a number of things to get good results. First of all, you need to carefully choose the size of your molds. You'll need a very precise diameter in order to make sure that your pultrusion fits your molds exactly. Because pultrusion typically uses pressurized air to force the plastic mixture through the molds, it can be a long and laborious process.

Fortunately, the pultrusion process is relatively simple. Typically you'll only have to cut your fiberglass rod at certain points, feed the gas through the mold, and then force it out through the vent. Using graphite makes this task even easier because it won't require any special tools. Simply place the mold and your fiberglass rods through the hole in the top of the mold, and use the right tooling to finish the job. No other tools are necessary for a great fast-action job.
